Final Score: Bidvest Wits (Pattison 11’, Faty 18’, Koapeng 70′) 3-2 Kaizer Chiefs (Parker 64’, Majoro 72’)

The 2012 Telkom Knockout Cup competition kicked off with a thrilling encounter between Wits and Chiefs.

Matthew Pattison gave the score keeper some work to do early in the first half when he beat the Chiefs goalkeeper, Arthur Bartman, with a low shot from his weaker foot. Seven minutes later, Pattison went from scorer to provider as he played a brilliant in-swinging free kick onto the head of Papy Faty.

Just after the hour mark, Parker received a pass inside the box from George Lebese and calmly turned and placed his shot far from the outstretched arm of keeper Harrison. Chiefs began to surge forward in search of the equaliser, leaving gaps in the defence. Pattison once again breached the Chiefs defense and played a square ball to an unmarked Koapeng who comfortably slotted home from close range. Before the Wits supporters could finish celebrating the goal, Majoro escaped his markers and scoring Chiefs second of the game.

In the 90th minute Tinashe Nengomasha received a straight red card after a foul on his countryman, Jimmy Jambo.
