PSL Rankings – October 2012

5 October 2012 The Touchline Expert

At the start of the 2012/2013, the 3 best teams in South Africa’s premier division were Orlando Pirates (1), Moroka Swallows (2) and SuperSport United (3).

  • Orlando Pirates topped the list having picked up their second treble in as many years.
  • Moroka Swallows’ near fairy-tale season under the new Bafana coach, Gordon Igesund, helped the Dube Birds finish 2nd on the 2011/2012 ABSA Premiership log table.
  • Supersport United scooped up the 2012 Nedbank Cup trophy in a tense final against local rivals Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of lastseason.

Two months into the new season and we have a brand new number 1.

Moroka Swallows and SuperSport United picked up from where they left off last season by brushing aside Sundowns, Pirates, Free State Stars and Amazulu to contest in the 2012 MTN 8 final. The Dube Birds lifted the trophy after a hard fought 2-1 victory at the Orlando Stadium.

The biggest movers are University of Pretoria, they have been delivering shock results with 3 away victories including a huge 5-1 thumping of Ajax Cape Town last week Saturday. They remain undefeated in the ABSA premiership and are currently sitting in second place. They have been on quite a streak in 2012 with great results in the National First Division.

The largest drop in the PSL rankings is Amazulu, who are sitting right at the foot of the log following a season where they manged to finish in the top 8. To make matter worse for Usuthu, they were on the receiving end of an emphatic 6-0 hiding from Kaizer Chiefs.

Talking about Kaizer Chiefs, here are the PSL Rankings as we enter October 2012

Martizburg United 1-0 Chippa United. The PSL Rankings are correct. Thought Chipa would win.
