SAFA Appoints Igesund

30 June 2012 The Touchline Expert

Gordon Igesund has been appointed as Bafana Bafana head coach. Igesund’s appointment comes after a lengthy interview process which saw him square up against Free State Star’s head coach, Steve Komphela, for the job.

Many One Two readers believe that Gordon’s appointment as the national senior team coach was the right decision and, quite frankly, long overdue.

Gordon Igesund is the PSL’s most succesful coach, having won the league with four different clubs (Manning Rangers, Santos, Mamelodi Sundowns, Orlando Pirates). He also rescued Moroka Swallows from relegation in the 2010/2011 campaign and turned them into league challengers the following season.

He will have a tough task ahead as Bafana look to recover from a poor start to their World Cup 2014 Qualifiers campaign and ensure they put on a good showing at the CAF 2013 tournament.

Congratulations to Gordon Igesund. Do South Africa proud.
