South African football lovers were denied the opportunity to watch the CAF Champions League match live on SABC 1 after the public broadcaster’s crew was kicked out of Stade TP Mazembe in Lubumbashi, DRC on Sunday afternoon.

Here is the order of events as they unfolded on the day.

2:15pm: Just over an hour before kick-off, news breaks that the SABC crew has been kicked out of Stade TP Mazembe with “technical issues” being cited as the reason for the disagreement. Orlando Pirates officials manage to intervene between the two parties and the SABC crew is allowed to return back into the stadium.

3:25pm:Reports confirm that the local broadcaster has cancelled the live feed to the outside satellite.

3:30pm KICK OFF. Still no live feed for anyone outside Lubumbashi, DRC. The SABC crew is kicked out once again from the stadium.

4:05pm: Pirates captain, Lucky Lekgwathi, is given a red card.

4:17pm: HALF TIME. TP Mazembe 0-0 Orlando Pirates

4:30pm: Roger de Sa makes his first substitutions, bringing in the defensive pair of Bheki Nzunga and Oupa Manyisa for the attack minded Tlou Segolela and Rudolf Bester. TP Mazembe also makes a substitution bringing in Kalaba.

4:40pm The hosts make another substitution and switch to 3 defenders in pursuit of a goal.

4:55pm: Jean Kasusula scores for the hosts. TP Mazembe 1-0 Orlando Pirates

5:12pm: The referee awards yet another penalty… and Senzo Meyiwa denies Tresor Mputu from the spot!

5:20pm After 5 added minutes, the ref blows the final whistle and Orlando Pirates sail through to the group stages of the CAF Champions League. Final Score 1-0 to TP Mazembe but 3-2 to Orlando Pirates on aggregate.
